Sofubi

Sofubi — short for "soft vinyl" — got its start in 1950s Japan, when toy makers swapped flammable celluloid for a softer, safer material. It found its real home in the kaiju boom of the '60s: Godzilla, Ultraman, and the wave of monster toys that followed. Decades later, Tokyo street-fashion artists reinvented it as a canvas for limited-run, hand-painted designer toys — glitter, glow-in-the-dark, and everything in between. Every piece here is cast and painted in small batches. No two are exactly alike.
